ESTAMPAS FOLKLORICAS PERU’S HISTORY
Estampas Folkloricas Peru of New York, is a nonprofit organization founded in September 2000. The organization’s main goal is to preserve, promote, and diffuse Peruvian folklore and cultural manifestations through dance and music. Its repertoire includes traditional dances from the different regions of Peru, including the coast, the mountain areas and the jungle. Most members are students from colleges, universities and schools districts in Nassau County, Suffolk County and New York City.
Since its creation, the group has performed as part of numerous festivities, celebrations and activities in Peruvian and Hispanic communities, as well as across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. Appearances include The Peruvian Parade in Paterson, the 34th Folk Festival at Nassau Community College, The XXI Convention of the Association of Peruvian Institutions in the United States and Canada, Peruvian Cultural Week 2000 in Queens, Peruvian anniversary at the United Nations in 2007, and at universities such as Hunter College, Stony Brook University, Dowling College, La Guardia Community College and Molloy College.
The organization hosts the annual event “Los Carnavales de mi Tierra” (Carnivals of My Land), a multicultural show at which the group introduces its members and repertoire to the public.
HISTORIA DE ESTAMPAS FOLKLORICAS PERU
Estampas Folklóricas Perú, de New York, es una organización sin fines de lucro fundada en el 2000, cuyo principal objetivo es la preservación, fomento y difusión del folklore y la cultura peruana a través de la danza y la música, en los Estados Unidos. Su repertorio incluye danzas costumbristas de las diferentes ciudades del Perú, y regiones como la costa, sierra y selva. Sus integrantes son, en su mayoría, estudiantes de universidades y distritos escolares de la ciudad de Nueva York, y de los condados de Nassau y Suffolk.
Desde su creación, el grupo ha participado en numerosas festividades, celebraciones y actividades de la comunidad peruana y la comunidad hispana y ha visitado estados como New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania y Washington D.C. Entre sus presentaciones destaca el Desfile Peruano de Paterson, el 34vo Festival de Folklore del Nassau Community College, la XXI Convención de la Asociación de Instituciones Peruanas de Estados Unidos y Canadá, AIPEUC, la Semana Cultural Peruana 2000, 2010 y 2011 de Queens. También se han presentado en univeridades como Hunter College, Stony Brook, Dowling College, La Guardia, Molloy College y Hofstra.
La organización realiza un evento anual llamado Los Carnavales de mi Tierra, que es un show multicultural donde el grupo presenta sus miembros y su repertorio al público.
